Press Release
Light Grey have announced their second EP “Are You Even Real”, out October 29th and share a new single “Messed Up”.
“Messed Up” is the follow up to the recently released “Disassociate”. The track showcases the band’s energy and attitude with crunchy guitars and unreserved lyrics, expressing vocalist Ciaran Nevin’s reaction to insults and criticism. “The centre theme of the track pulls on the hurtful words people use in the heat of the moment and that no one really means what they are saying when it comes to these words. This song serves as a middle finger to anyone who throws hate around.” say’s the frontman.
“Are You Even Real”, the second EP from Light Grey co-produced by the band alongside HappyDaze’s Luke Bovill is a compelling and vivid collection of songs that include the aforementioned “Messed Up” and the dense and despondent “Disassociate” that was released in July.
Biography
Galway, Ireland’s Light Grey are Ciaran Nevin (guitar/vocals) and Mikey Connolly (bass/backing vocals). Entrenched deep within the captivating domain of third wave pop punk, the duo draws on elements of emo and hip hop to create an effervescent energy all of their own.
Formed in late 2017, Light Grey stepped out into the alternative music scene with the release of their debut pop rock EP, Beginners Luck, the following year. Expanding to a temporary full-band format, they subsequently released three singles—”Cassidy,” “100 Wishes,” and “Bitter”—throughout 2019 and 2020. In addition to facilitating the production of their own discography, Nevin and Connolly have also worked on tracks alongside the likes of Sammy Clifford (WSTR) and Smrtdeath over the course of their so-far short tenure.
Now on the heels of a lineup change that has returned them to their original, two-man act, the duo are showing off their evolution with a four track EP, titled “Are You Even Real” due for release on the 29th of October. Co-produced and mixed by Luke Bovil (Happydaze), these four tracks mark the band’s divergence into a grittier, hip-hop-accented take on 2000s punk.
The first single from the EP, “Disassociate” was released on July 23rd and brings with it a lyrical narrative centralized on the loss of a friend and subsequent feelings of isolation. This is to be followed by the second single “Messed Up” to be released on September 1st and shows themes of how the band deals with insults and criticism in an online world.
